ProActive – Launching BSL Legislation in Other States

Our immediate goal is to defeat pending preemption bills. However, our long term goal is to be proactive, not reactive.

– To create BSL bills in all states that currently do not have BSL laws in place. – Identify legislators willing to introduce Breed Safety bills

– Create a PAC for the purpose of promoting and seeing through the process of these bills becoming law.

Americans are concerned about the increasing number of fatalities from dangerous dog attacks. Some communities are attempting to reduce the number of attacks through regulation (BSL), including the registration of pit bulls and/or mandatory spay/neuter of fighting breed dogs which would reduce the number of pit bulls overcrowding shelters and in neighborhoods. Others want to ensure a dog that kills or causes injury will be euthanized, not rehomed.

SOUTH CAROLINA Legislature is considering a BSL that would require registration for unsterilized Pit Bulls or pay a fine.

OHIO is considering tougher penalties on owners of dangerous dogs – require euthanasia for dogs that kill or cause injury

MAINE has proposed a new law that would require owners of dogs that attack to assist the victim and give them their information. It would make fleeing the scene of an attack a crime.
