The decision came to a vote after council was informed of a horrific attack in June on a beloved pet dog, Maddie. Her owners were bitten trying to save their dog. Maddie’s injuries resulted in amputation of a front leg. The owners were left with scars and nerve damage. The ordeal was traumatic.
Residents were living in fear and were changing their walking routes and requested city council act.
Mayor Ted Kedzierski concurred.
“We’re going to move on this very quickly,” Kedzierski told residents. “You shouldn’t have to live in fear.”
We commend the board on their common sense action that will protect public safety. Breed Safety Laws PREVENT serious attacks from happening as opposed to basic dangerous dog ordinances that are reactionary- nothing happens until after an attack has occurred.
Pit bull type dogs are responsible for a disproportionate number of fatal and disfiguring attacks across the country. They are the #1 canine killer of people, pets and livestock every year, followed by rottweilers.
Thank you Grosse Pointe Shores for caring about the safety of your residents!
Great news for the citizens and pets of your city. It’s really hard to get a breed ban in place but the lives you save will thank you forever. Tom
Looks to me like the Demon-crats are trying to overturn this. They should be banned from our Country!
