Tribute Honors Victims of Pit Bull Attacks in Lansing, MI

On October 24, 2019, members of Responsible Citizens for Public Safety gathered on the steps of the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing in Honor of National Pit Bull Victim Awareness Day. It was the first public event our group has sponsored. Our mission is to save lives by raising awareness and educating the public about the danger of allowing pit bull dogs in our communities.

Colleen Lynn, founder of DogsBite.org, was the Keynote speaker at the Tribute. DogsBite.org is a national dog bite victims group, dedicated to reducing serious dog attacks. DogsBite.org has a voluminous library of information and statistics regarding dog attacks that are referenced in courtrooms and media reports across the United States.

Ms. Lynn’s powerful presentation is sure to impact legislators to protect public safety through regulation of pit bull ownership. DogsBite.org and Responsible Citizens for Public Safety call on legislators to enact mandatory sterilization for pit bull type dogs as a starting point to protect the public from dog attacks pit bulls are responsible for the majority of serious attacks and they are also overrepresented in shelters and in cruelty cases.

Pam Ashley, R.N. and Nurse Liaison for S.C.A.R.S. presented the graphic nature of the horrific injuries children sustain and the grueling recovery they go through after being mauled by pit bulls. Her testimony brought many to tears.

Paige Woody and her daughter Zoey, 8, attended the Tribute. Zoey was attacked by the neighbor’s pit bulls and has had 16 surgeries to restore damage done to her face and jaw.

Dr. Linda Lee Tarver, Christian author, President of Republican Women’s Federation of Michigan, political activist, opened the event in prayer and discussed the responsibility of lawmakers to protect public safety.

Oneil Colley
was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor Single Act of Bravery
for saving the life of a U.S.Postal worker in a dire situation at considerable risk to himself.

Responsible Citizens for Public Safety honored Oneil Colley, who saved a U.S. Postal who was being brutally attacked by a pit bull in Detroit. Mr. Colley performed his song, “Dog Attack Postman Song” which he wrote after the incident went viral. You can purchase the song on every music outlet. Get it! It is very catchy.

Responsible Citizens for Public Safety launched a petition drive to ask Congress to declare a National Pit Bull VICTIM Awareness Day! 100,000 signatures are needed by November 21, 2019. Please sign it and share it! Victims deserve an official day of recognition after the hell they have been through because of someone’s pet choice.
