Victories for Public Safety in Parma, OH and Maumelle, AR

The pit bull ban in Parma, OH was officially upheld following a recount after the May 7 vote. The breed-specific legislation, which has been on the books for more than three decades, will remain in effect, despite much protest by pit bull advocates. After hearing much debate, the city council decided to put the issue on the ballot. Prior to the May 7 vote, the ASPCA sent members to canvas neighborhoods, send out mailers and campaign for removing the pit bull ban, but in the end, public safety won out and informed voters decided to keep their neighborhoods free from pit bull mayhem.

On June 3, Maumelle, AR city council voted 5-3 to keep their pit bull ban in the interest of public safety.
