Michigan Tribute to Victims of Dangerous Dogs

The 2023 Michigan Tribute to Victims of Dangerous Dogs Zoom Premiere!

For National Pit Bull VICTIM Awareness Day 2023, Responsible Citizens for Public Safety held a Zoom meeting to remember victims of dangerous dogs and to discuss and promote legislation that would protect public safety.

Leticia Spagnuolo of Livingston County, MI and Jill Deminiuk of Macomb County, MI recount the violent dog attacks that killed their beloved pets and their experience with law enforcement and the court system in the aftermath. Special guest Colleen Lynn, founder of DogsBite.org, joins the discussion and offers insight on alternative legislation to BSL that would help protect public safety in Michigan. Dog Attack Victim Advocate, Bonny T. Lee, R.N. of Virginia also joins our discussion.

We examined a Michigan Dangerous Dog Registry, a Mandatory Bite Disclosure Law or “Truth in Pet Adoption Law” for animal shelters and animal rescues as well as mandatory liability insurance for all dog owners. We want all dog owners to be responsible for their animals and accountable when their dogs injure people or animals. We want animal shelters and rescue groups to disclose a dog’s documented behavioral history and bite history in writing to any individual to whom the dog is released. The public relies on animal shelters and rescue groups to tell the TRUTH about the dogs available for adoption. We want legislators to act on behalf of public safety. We have lost far too many lives to violent dog attacks. It has to stop!

We invite you to listen and to join our coalition to protect the public from dangerous dogs.
